How To Pick A Dress Color
Aug 29, 2010

In general:  light skin looks good with dark colors, medium skin looks good primary colors, and dark skin looks good with whites and pale colors.

-Everything works with fair skin, but be careful about gaudy colors like striking red and royal blue. Choose a dark color of different shades, like denim blue, orangish red, or green.  You can also do black or white.

-Medium skin should stay away from dull colors like pink, gray, lemon, sky blue.  Try red, royal blue, green, black, orange brown, or brown instead.

-Dark skin is best with colors like cream, ivory, maroon, brown, gray, black, pink, and lemon .

If you are still indecisive on what color you should wear or fall somewhere in between:

-People with pale white, yellowish-olive, or dark skin such as brunettes with deeply colored eyes, Asians, and African Americans should wear colors that are sharp, stark and clear. White, black, navy blue, red and shocking pink work well.  Avoid pastels and subdued tones like beige, orange and gold.

-People with pale and pink skin like natural blondes or brunettes with pale eyes, should pick pastels and soft neutrals like lavender, plum, rose-brown and soft blue.  Black and orange are not good.
-People with golden undertones like redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes should pick colors with golden undertones, like camel, beige, orange, gold and dark brown. Avoid colors with blue tones, like navy.  Black and white also won't be the most flattering.

-People with golden undertones and creamy white or peach skin, usually having straw-colored or strawberry red hair, freckles, rosy cheeks, and blue or green eyes will most benefit from warm colors like camel, peach, golden yellow and golden brown. Dark, dull colors are not good for this group.
